Questions

This blog is essentially all about questions. The quality of both science and art can be measured by some sort of metric involving questions; Science, by the questions in enables us to ask and Art, by the questions it inspires us to ask. Media then, is how we find out about what questions others are asking and how we share our own path of inquiry and subsequent results to others. I hope to explore, analyze and comment upon how these entities all work together. My questions are about the relationship between these fixtures: how do art and science influence each other? How well is art able to convey scientific ideas? How does media affect how we see science, art, or the relationship between the two?

I suppose the foundation for this blog is my interest in Science. Yes, capital "S". As in, the Scientific Enterprise. A lot is already written about the relationship between art and the media and I'm not so interested in those two without a connection to science. But if anybody's reading this, expect to see just about everything in here: physics, biology, neuroscience, film, painting, literature, etc. My interest in film will likely dominate posts here, but I hope to increase my own familiarity with other mediums. I hope also to comment on the ways we intake or are exposed to scientific art, or artistic science.

I would like to acknowledge David Ehrlich, a mentor of mine who always stressed through panel discussion he either moderated or participated in that creativity is not solely found the work of artists and that analysis and exporation are not only the tools of scientists.

Links include favorite communicators of art and science. If you haven't, please check out Radiolab, a brilliant show that uses audio to help explain the connection between science and culture. Other links are sites I go to when looking to pique my interest.

There, I just wanted to get this mission statement thing down, so my first post ever isn't a musing on the science of Avatar. Stay curious, my friends.
